September 2020

What a busy month it has been. Between moving to a new city, starting a university course and dealing with the deep existential trouble that my student ID photo has caused me. I have not found the energy to write a single thing.

I have also confronted the realisation that I am not someone who can pack well; I’ve only brought one pair of jeans that I like but thank goodness I remembered a water damaged travel book and The Best of Dr Suess!

My first night after moving to Cardiff was overwhelming to say the least, I spent so long unpacking and organising that I neglected to go to the shops and was required to live on the warm tap water my building specialises in. Nonetheless I was washed with a feeling of independence, excitement of things to come and a belief that anything was possible…for about an hour after which I just wanted my mother.

But I have kept busy, university work has humbled me to say the least. While I was relieved to see that none of my tutors suggested a dreaded “Getting to know each other” activity (the universal sign on an unplanned lesson) we were asked to submit a 90 second short film to introduce ourselves, arguably this is just the film student version of such an exercise.

I struggled whether to make something entertaining or to try something more artsy, I ultimately decided on artsy so to adequately portray my best qualities (Referring to my humourlessness and pretentiousness not artistic ability) I can honestly say that my short was not the worst one presented (it was the second worst). I have a lot to learn from my classmates.
