May 2021

May’s Newsletter is coming at you pretty late. The truth is I have neglected the blog in order to spend more time doing very little. The trouble with a new job is that you have to reconfigure your balance, so working full time, making a documentary part time, having a social life, watching several films a week and maintaining a vanity project blog means some things will be prioritised over others. That said unlike the past when I’ve not posted to my blog, I’m still keeping with my planned number of posts (4 a month) even if the publishing date changes.

What to say about May though, its gone far too quickly and has been the last leg of the race that is Film school year one. With our short films handed in and our craft assessments finished it has simply been a game of waiting for results and one by one moving back home for the summer (although I’m not doing that this year as I now work in Cardiff).

But there have been many adventures, riding the Ferris Wheel in Cardiff Bay, coming last in Bowling, winning a Magic Eight Ball at the arcade and riding a rental bike all over Cardiff are among the highlights, I’m not living a life as wild as American College Films would have people believe.

Top films however go to Sound of Metal (with a post credit Q&A) and Nomadland which were both worthy of the best picture spot.

I also interviewed two more people for a documentary I’m making, a project made entirely out of spite I assure you but one that will hopefully turn out slightly above average.

But mostly its been a month of trying to convince my girlfriend that having the television on in the bedroom is good for both of our sleep.

I hope you’re all keeping well!
